Split to Zagreb via Plitvice Lakes – Routes Explained

Plitvice Lakes National Park is organised around two main areas where the most impressive attractions are concentrated: the Lower Lakes and the Upper Lakes.
The structure of your visit depends primarily on how much time you wish to spend inside the park and how much walking you prefer.

Lower Lakes

The Lower Lakes section can be comfortably explored in approximately 3 hours.
This route includes some of the park’s most striking viewpoints, canyon scenery and wooden pathways, offering a complete and rewarding experience within a moderate timeframe.

The walk covers approximately 4 kilometres along well-maintained and relatively easy paths.

Lower & Upper Lakes

For guests who wish to experience the park’s most significant highlights in a single visit, it is possible to explore both the Lower and Upper Lakes.
This extended route typically requires between 4.5 and 5.5 hours and covers approximately 8 kilometres of walking.

The two areas are connected by an electric boat and a panoramic shuttle train, both operating at regular intervals throughout the day.

Routes are discussed together upon arrival and can be adjusted inside the park — extended or shortened according to your preferences, physical comfort, or weather conditions.

Timing Strategy

An early start from Split — typically around 7:00 AM, or earlier if preferred — makes a noticeable difference to the overall experience.

Visitor numbers increase steadily throughout the morning and can affect the atmosphere, especially during high season.
Nature is more impressive without an audience.

Arriving early means quieter wooden pathways, shorter waiting times for the boat and panoramic train, and a smoother flow along the chosen route.

Once inside the park and the route is agreed, timing remains flexible. The visit can be extended or shortened depending on your pace, weather conditions, and overall comfort, while ensuring a relaxed continuation towards Zagreb and arrival in the early evening.

Practical Information

Inside the park, payments are card only.

We recommend comfortable walking shoes suitable for natural terrain.
The wooden walkways and forest paths are easy to navigate, but can occasionally be damp — elegant footwear is better saved for Zagreb.

If the forecast looks uncertain, bringing a light rain poncho is a good idea.
They are usually available at the entrance, though availability cannot be guaranteed.

To ensure the most comfortable experience, please let us know in advance about your fitness level, the age of participants, and any mobility considerations.

All electric boat crossings and the panoramic shuttle “train” within the park are included in your entrance ticket.

There is no additional charge for time spent in the park up to 5.5 hours — this extended visit is fully included in the base price.

Arrival in Zagreb

After leaving the lakes behind, we continue at a relaxed pace Split to Zagreb via Plitvice Lakes.

We usually arrive in the late afternoon, with drop-off available in central Zagreb and the surrounding area, including Zagreb Airport.
